NEW ORLEANS Mark Shaw of Oklahoma City University was named national athlete of the year for the 2017 NAIA men's cross country season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Shaw, a sophomore from Middlesbrough, England, became the first Star to win the NAIA men's cross country individual title after crossing the finish line in 24 minutes, nine seconds in the 8,000-meter race on Nov. 18 in Vancouver, Wash. He finished first or second in every race he ran this season.
